Description:
When I was hiking along an escarpment in the East Kimberley, I witnessed a flock of Red-tailed Black Cockatoos in flight. As I watched these majestic birds, I noticed a juvenile bird among them, with both banded and red-tail feathers. I found it fascinating to think that this young bird would eventually lose one type of feather as it matures. It seemed as if this cockatoo was still learning about its surroundings as it followed behind the rest of the flock.
Inspired by this experience, I created this painting to capture a family of the Red-tailed Black Cockatoos in flight, with a focus on the unique appearance of the juvenile.
