Description

Ochre on Canvas

90 x 90cm

Top section of artwork – This painting describes a particular place located on Ngargaroon (Texas) country – which is my mother’s country, known as ‘Red Butte‘. It mostly portrays the ruggedness as well as the landscapes of this beautiful part of Texas

Within the middle area of my artwork- can be seen a dark green panel that goes across the board, this is what i have described as the mighty Ord River. Plenty full fish in this river, I remember swimming, hunting for bush food and fishing, happily being out on country with family. We never left empty handed, Red Butte was also one of our favourite places to visit during the long weekend/holidays.

Whereas the bottom panel is the description of the many beautiful coloured rocks that lay scattered amongst the sands’ ground. I recall my mother Charlene Carrington pacing around with her eyes stuck to the ground- searching the pretty stones, as she loved to collect different things. and I asked “what are you looking for?” she said that if look closely @ the rocks and you see them with holes and is shiny inside – “you crack em open”

Feeling lucky i got up and searched around, with the sun just above us, I recall seeing something very shiny that caught my eye, picking us this smooth oval shape rock, i could tell it was special, I cracked it open and there were these beautiful black amethyst crystals, poking out at me.

These stones are described as the many splatters of richly ochre pigments, colours seen as yellow, pink, red, black white, green seen here.

The small dotted shape seen within the red hills is what I have depicted as a nawan (cave) that can clearly be seen when you go there in this area.
