Melissa Foster is a painter, who currently works from her home studio in Broome, Western Australia. Inspired by the natural environment of Northwest Australia, Fosters paintings are abstract expressions of vegetation and fauna. Colour and expressive mark making play an important role in the way Foster captures the form of her subject, leading to an interesting tension between loose large brushstrokes and detailed patterning in her paintings.
Melissa Foster is a florist and self-taught painter who regularly takes part in artist run workshops. Her work has been featured in various art awards including the Hedland Art Awards, Kimberley Art Awards, Cossack Art Awards and Shinju Art Awards where she won the Mixed Media Prize in 2016 and the Painting Award in 2019.
