Jack Jnr Macale Loodgebuddunge was born in 1978 in Subiaco Perth because, as he says, at that time all twins had to be born in the city. He grew up in Fitzroy Crossing, in Junjuwa community and moved to his grandfather’s country and started Biridu community in the early 90s when the land was given back.
Jack has a mixed family background. His grand father is Bunuba, one grand mother is Walmajarri and the other grandmother is Djaru. His fathers’ grandmother was Gooniyandi. His Walmajarri Grandmother is Munmurria Daisy Andrews, she is a famous artist along with his paternal grandmother Tiny Macale who is also a widely celebrated artist from the Northern Territory.
The Bunuba resistance fighter Jandamarra is an important figure in Jack’s work, which he learnt about through camp fire stories from his elders when he was growing up. Jack is now living in Fitzroy and says that “art is my lifetime never ending medicine”.
